PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY :

 

 

This great looking and iconic lamp is going to set the stage with any design style and interior location.

 

Circa 1940's / 50's it has been rewired with a new three core insulated braided cable and 3 pin plug.

A new switched chrome lampholder has also been installed.

 

These fantastic lamps are British quality from a bygone era, amazingly versatile with many combinations of angles and positions. 

British firm Hadrill & Horstmann created and engineered some of the most memorable and innovative lamps and lighting solutions of the 20th century and this is defintely one of them.

With it's barrel weighted roller it offers a smooth counterbalance mechanism that is tactile, versatile and admiringly eloquent.

Base : 150mm square

Rim : 135 front diameter

Average height : 700mm

Average body projection 480mm

 

CONDITION : Overall very good vintage working condition.

Age related shade and  base imperfections, minor spots of paint loss  which do not distarct from an overall very nice looking lamp with great age related patina.

Hadrill & Horstman

Born in 1881 to a renowned clockmaker in Bath, England, Sidney Horstmann (OBE) was a pioneering engineer and businessman. Among his many inventions were the variable automotive speed gearbox, gas street lighting controls, and the ‘Horstmann Bogie’ suspension system; used on many Western tanks during WWII and for which he was awarded an OBE. Following the war, Horstmann joined forces to form Hadrill & Horstmann, famed for their Counterpoise lamps which are highly sought-after  collector’s pieces.
